Privacy rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Last updated: May 3, 2026

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights regarding the personal information FacultyDex holds about you. We honor these rights regardless of whether your local law requires us to. Most can be exercised directly through the dashboard or app — for the rest, email us.

Self-service rights (no email needed)

  • Access — see what we have. Download via Settings → Export my data. See Export your data.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate data. Edit your profile, content, and account info from the dashboard or iOS app.
  • Erasure — delete your account and all associated data. Use Settings → Delete account. See Delete your account.
  • Portability — export your data in a standard format (JSON). Same export tool as Access.
  • Withdraw consent — for AI-assisted CV parsing, decline the next time the consent dialog appears, or delete-and-reinstall the iOS app to reset the choice.

Email-based rights

Email dan@facultydex.org from the address associated with your account for any of these:

  • Restriction — limit how we process your data (rare in practice; usually a request is better handled by deletion).
  • Objection — object to specific processing.
  • CCPA: opt-out of sale or sharing — we don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of, but we'll confirm in writing if you want documentation.
  • Account-related issues we can't fix from the dashboard — e.g. takedown request for a published photo of you that someone else uploaded to their lab page.

We respond to email-based privacy requests within 30 days. Most are turned around in a few business days.

Cookies and tracking

We use essential cookies for sign-in and session management only. Cloudflare may set anonymous analytics cookies to help us understand site usage. We don't use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking pixels, or third-party data brokers. There's no cookie banner because there's nothing meaningful to opt out of beyond what's required to keep you signed in.

Children's privacy

FacultyDex is intended for users 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. Lab pages may include photos of minors (research-group members who are students); the publishing PI is responsible for parental consent. See our privacy policy section 9 for details.

Data breach

If we ever experience a personal-data breach that creates a risk to your rights or freedoms, we'll notify affected users by email without undue delay and (where feasible) within 72 hours of discovering the breach. See our privacy policy section 10.
